So far, I love this thing.

Yeah, it's made in China, what isn't nowadays? It also costs about half of other units with comparable features. Supposedly there are parts from Italy, Japan and Germany inside, but I haven't verified this for myself. What I have verified is that it makes a great cup of coffee, espresso and cappuccino. At first, my wife was skeptical, especially since she likes decaf (blech!), but thanks to the fact that this machine is equally happy with ground coffee, she is on board now, and hasn't turned on her little drip machine since we got this. The menus are minimal, but easy to follow, and after about 10 minutes of watching me, my normally apprehensive about new tech wife was making her own coffee, just the way she likes it.I'm not a coffee snob, but I know a great cup when I taste one. I've probably increased my intake two-fold since getting this machine a couple of weeks ago, so that must mean something. The coffee comes out with a head on it (crema) and you can tell from the color that every bit of goodness is being extracted from the beans. The milk foamer is extremely simple to use, and leaves a head that has a mouth feel of whipped cream, something I didn't think was even possible from milk.The beverage from this machine was very well received by family members who spent the holiday weekend with us, and it got quite a workout. It never missed a beat. One of our visitors liked it so much that he made sure I placed an order for one on his behalf before he left!Are there cons? Sure. It's a bit loud, but the noise just means you have a great cup of coffee on the way, so who cares. The tank doesn't seem to be large enough, but that's probably because I keep emptying it. It only holds 8 of the pressed waste pucks, but they are easy to get rid of. Most things one could see as a con on the machine are simple tasks involved with owning such a machine, and with care, it keeps performing.Some have expressed a concern about repairs and parts availability, and it's a valid one. The company is in China, and while parts are probably available, you will likely end up doing the repairs yourself. But the machines aren't too complicated, and if you can turn a screw and swap a part, that shouldn't be insurmountable.I'd have never spent the $800+ for a machine with comparable features, and had to think hard about spending this much. But I'm happy I took the chance, and don't regret it at all. I just hope it keeps doing what it does, because it's going be tough to go back to the Bunn.

The best for the price

So, we ordered this from Buy.com a little over a week ago and we love it.It replaced a mr coffee steam esspresso maker... so yeah big upgrade.Now that being said,I like my coffee near perfection and am very picky.I don't like Starbucks,latte stands or anything that wasn't made by myself.I have to admit I was worried that this machine wouldn't be able to deliver as the price seemed low vs the technology.First off this machine requires you to constantly refill the water tank,beans,dump the used grounds,clean the drip tray etc.so if you don't like annoying beeping after every 2-3 cappuccinos then this is not the machine for you.If used 10+ times a day it will need frequent descalings and cleanings.We use coffee bean direct french roast esspresso from Amazon and they the best quality so far without having a burnt taste.Kicking horse dosen't do well with this machine so be aware.To keep the milk steaming tube clean just put the tube in a cup of water and press the milk icon to run water through and clean the tube out after each use,make sure the dial is on the first setting on the metal frother.Now for a strong cappuccino,set the bean grinder dial to 3 and run double cups of 30-40 mg at a time then set the milk steamer to 20 sec and use about 1/6 of a cup of milk,add desired syrup,or cream and enjoy.Lastly the crema never goes away it will be there even an hour later if you didn't finish your coffee and is thick enough to squeeze caramel or chocolate onto.I hope this is helpful, enjoy.

Neat machine

Yes it is plastic, but it works well and if not abused or treated roughly should hold up as well as other coffee makers that are also plastic. The instructions are not totally in sequence but they are functional. The espresso is very good and the milk frother is simple and works flawlessly. Getting the correct amount of coffee the correct grind, and the amount of water per cup of espresso takes some adjusting to get to your personal taste. This machine is easy and we will see about the reliability. We also will see about availability of repair and parts in the future. All in all, this was a good purchase.
